All in a Tuesday afternoon...

Look - it's a starfish on the shore of Lake Superior!

We  usually eat lunch at a table in the picnic area of the campground.  From this high perch we watch kayakers, loons, gulls, ducks and crows and ravens.

A reminder that we are in the "northwoods" pine forest.

The things you see at the beach!

Monday, Monday...can't trust that day

We went on a "death march" between the two Washburn public campgrounds - a little over 4 miles - when the temp was 86 degrees with no breeze.

Always something to see at the Washburn marina - a real contender in "Boat name of the Year" is
"YACHT SEA"

So very early for goldenrod...but then everything has been early this year.  Hopefully not SNOW!

Friday Night - Patsy's Bar and Grill

It's whitefish caught in Lake Superior by  Bodins fishing enterprise, fried in a secret batter....

On the Washburn Lake Trail today - red berry clusters.

We're Back at THE LAKE....

An unexpected treasure on the Bayview Park Road beach today.

After a walk along Superior Avenue (known to us as Lupine Road), we had a lovely bouquet of weeds.

We are so fortunate - look at the Beach today!  This guy was amazing (as were the waves)!

Erna and Willy take on Bayfield peninsula

Raspberries were plentiful - should have weighed Willy before he went into the patch AND after!

The Apostle Islands Lakeshore headquarters had a great video about the islands.

A beautiful day for a wedding at the picnic shelter here in Memorial Park....

Fire is almost ready for the brats - but first - let's pause for HAPPY HOUR!

Another outstanding night at Big Top Chautauqua - Ladies of the Canyon.  We heard the songs of Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Mama Cass, Linda Ronstadt and Janis Joplin.  "I Feel the Earth Move Under my Feet", "Desperado", "Dream A Little Dream Of Me", and on and on.  It was a repeat for Stephan and me, but we loved it a second time!

Erna and Willy - Island hopping

On the way to Madeline Island on the ferry called Madelin -(from the middle to the right) Mary's sister, Erna and her friend Willy, and The Mister.  (And three  other people on the left that liked us a lot so they wanted to be in our group pic.)

At Big Bay Town Park on Madeline Island...Willy, Erna and Mary

Evidence of early settlers on the Island.

Back in Bayfield at the Winfield Inn gardens - rain gutters that double as flower boxes!

On Madeline Island new construction relies on the building materials arriving by ferry.   This site had the slab poured and the only supplies that had arrived were prominently, and I do say proudly, displayed.

On the trail between the two Washburn campgrounds....

Someone left a pretty little work of art - natural elements from the surrounding vegetation.

These are another favorite of Mary's along the roadside - Chicory

No grass growing under our feet today...

We are rebuilding the wooden support that holds up the camper when it comes off of the truck.  We took it all apart when we left our house on Beebe Road.  Now to reconstruct it,,,The Mister studies the situation.

Walking the trail from one end of Washburn to the other, we pass some blocks of brownstone on the water's edge.  This stone was a huge export from the area with numerous quarries all around.  Buildings in this area and upper Michigan feature brownstone building blocks.

It's the berries!!  I think birds like these ?  Someday I'll move from flower identification to shrubs.

Bassoon In Bayfield

Bayfield hosts a summer series called "Mostly Thursdays" - chamber music played by small groups in area churches and meeting rooms.  Today was a trio featuring a flute, piano and bassoon - musicians from UM-Duluth for the most part.  Loved the low tones of the bassoon playing mostly cello parts since the Argentinian tango pieces were not originally written for bassoon.

A Capital 4th of July

Sitting in Bayfield awaiting the start of today's regatta - it's Bayfield Race Week sponsored by the Wayzata Yacht Club.

As the race ended, the colorful sails come down and the skippers sound their horns as they pass the Bayfield Yacnt Club.

Beautiful shrub roses are everywhere

A walk at the beach - stormy skies

Sing to me sweetly, Superior....

Lake Superior Farms...well sorta'

Here's our tomato (count em') -

Uh - that's one!   My sister gave me the plant and it seems to like it here.

As do the pansies that look spectacular today.  Thanks again, Sue!
