Once in a Blue Moon....

Stephan and I are so pleased to now have Susan in our family.  Pastor Marina Lachecki from St. John's UCC of LaPointe, Madeline Island, spoke to our hearts through Erik and Susan's original service and took us on a path filled with love and reflection.  It was a glorious day on the beach.

Wedding Blintz -
Erik made homemade farmers cheese on Tuesday, and the blintzes on Wednesday morning.  He served the blintzes warm with strawberries at the wedding dinner.

On the ferry - we're going to have a wedding!

Erik and Susan Fairchild arrived this past weekend from Oregon to visit family and get married!

We are on the way to Madeline Island for the joyous event.

One plant in a pot - one tomato
(There are two more small ones that just set on in the last week.)

A most curious thing

Back home in West St. Paul, this walking stick attracted our attention.  He was inspecting our outside entrance door.

An Evening With Gilbert and Sullivan

The Thursday evening concerts in Bayfield offer such great variety.  These five soloists offered Gilbert and Sullivan songs and background for the songs.  Favorites - "I Am the Very Model of A Modern Major General" from Pirates, and "Three Little Maids From School" from The Mikado.

On the water in the boat that has no floor!

On the deep blue sea - we bobbed along.  The Mister wanted to test our gas Tohatsu powered motor (it started with two pulls after 5 or 6 years of rest) and the trusty electric motor.

The Mountains Call My Name

Big Top Chautauqua staged a show about John Muir, environmentalist and naturalist last night.
The picture is not award winning - Tom Mitchell (drummer in the Blue Canvas Orchestra) portrayed John Muir.

And here's this week's weeds and wildflowers - getting harder to find a bloomin' thing -

Nature on parade

How old is this weeping willow?

These mergansers were frolicking in an uncharacteristic large group on our beach walk tonight.  Shiny little fish were jumping up from the surface of the LAKE.

It's chilly back at the LAKE

Summer (Mostly Thursday) Music series - Bayfield's Memorial Park
St. Scholastica - Duluth, MN    The Saints Steel Band
Great sound by the water - calypso, bossa nova, reggae and more

The steel "pan" explained by leader Jeremy Craycraft.  The top of an oil drum hammered and polished and tuned takes about 100 hours to create.  The birthplace of the "pan" was Trinidad and Tobago about 70 years ago.

Back home in West St. Paul

170  Emerson Avenue East
Just look at that sky!

Our apartment is on the second floor (right corner).   The dining room window is on the right corner of the building,to the left is the kitchen window, and just above the brick over the garage entrance is the den window.

Can you see our neighbor's sunflowers growing in the garden - left side of the picture?

The bears missed these blackberries!

These were along the Brownstone Trail in Bayfield.

CORNY DAY in Cornucopia, WI

Cornucopia's population sign as you enter the town  -
(F) UNINCORPORATED

"Coastie" is a robotic little boat that teaches kids good water safety.  The boat talks to kids via a volunteer (retired Coast Guard) who stands away from the little boat, but has an earphone and microphone to hear what kids say and responds to them.   The volunteer also makes the boat move around.  The kids we watched were mesmerized.

Is this Bayfield, California??  I was looking for the Beachboys this afternoon.

The LAKE is in a mood swing...

The seas were rough today.  The cuffs of our rolled up pants were soaked as we walked the shore from Bayview Park Beach to beyond Friendly Valley Beach.

Here's the view at one end of the beach, about 1/4 mile beyond Friendly Valley Beach.  A little creek empties into the LAKE there and a nice sandbar has built up at the mouth just in the last three days.  The LAKE has been busy and wild!

Music Night

The Ekaterinburg Classical Trio (the Kat Trio)  played a "Summer Mostly Thursdays" concert at the Bayfield Presbyterian Church.  An interesting sound with a piano, violin and clarinet.  They played Scott Joplin's "Entertainer", hymns and classical arrangements.

The Madeline Island car ferry was rocking on rough waves of THE LAKE tonite.

Also rockin' - the Blue Canvas Orchestra at the Big Top tonite

Slurp!

West End Campground - Washburn WI
The water from the artesian well is so good and cold.  This is the mid-point of our morning walk between the two Washburn campgrounds.  It takes a while to perfect a technique that does not leave you dripping wet and still thirsty.

Around the South Shore - Herbster

We drove to the "South Shore" for the Herbster Corn and Brat Fest.  The food was good but the views over there are the most beautiful  ever when the LAKE is all riled up.  And today it was.

Bark Bay - Lake Superior
