Afternoon at The Big Top

It's not often that we see the tent in mid-afternoon up on Mt. Ashwabay.  A pretty sight!

Noah Hoehn and his one man - "live looping".  The marimba, harmonica, his voice and various percussion instruments made an amazing sound.

Furniture on the ski hill made (aptly) from retired skis -  at the T Bar and Lounge

Ashland Ore Dock is no more

The last remaining ore dock in Ashland is history now.   It only took two summers to tear it down.

And another day of fun in the sun

In the span of a few hours, the LAKE went from glass to a churning washing machne.

A Water Parsnip or Hoary Alyssum? - is there a more delicate flower?

What a Day!

The sky was blue, the trees so green and the LAKE was at its best today.

The "LAKER" was out for about an hour and a half today on a crystal blue day.

This is a favorite lagoon on our walk to Thompson's West End campground.

A sure sign of summer coming to an end - the goldenrod is in full bloom.

This artesian well is at the Thompson West End campground -it was completed in 1903 and is 119 feet deep.

The Best Therapy in our world

The Mister is going for his daily 'therapy"

I don't think she has rocks in her pockets as she walks and walks out into the LAKE....

Beach and Blues

Evidently everyone thought the BEACH sounded like fun.  It was a Superior  day in Paradise - sunny and 70+ degrees.

On the LAKE....

Lunch in the Memorial Park picnic area just steps from our campsite
74 degrees and sunny - LAKE is calm and lovely

Large leaved Aster, purple clover and ferns

From my flower identification book: "Because of their size and availability, the large leaves of the large-leaved aster are often used as emergency toilet paper."

Sunday in Bayfield

Stephan and Jim watching the Madeline car ferry.

Bayfield fishing boat comes in to the harbor.

The boat was out from 5 AM to 3 PM fishing in water as deep as 200 feet.  The catch was mostly whitefish, but some lake trout.  (BTW we had fresh fish for dinner prepared by Chef Stephan!)

Brother-in-law Jim

Our brother-in-law is visiting from Dayton, Ohio....

Houghton Falls trail gave us all some exercise -

Indian Stovepipe - deep in the forest

Herbster WI - Corn and Brat Fest

Back at camp, Stephan fires up the "Patio 9000" - his homemade chiminea.  This was strictly a demo because we already had a nice roaring fire in the firepit.  Guess you need a can of beer to get 'er going!

A new sandbar

The Sioux River empties into the LAKE near Friendly Valley Road.  It's a favorite beach area.  Today on our walk, we noted a whole new sandbar and busy beach-goers had already constructed  some art out there.  Every day is a new day at the beach as the waves dramatically move the shoreline and sand all around.
