My sister and I spent a couple of days in our hometown, Eau Claire. Our grandma lived very close to the Chippewa River on the North side. We enjoyed the Farmer's Market there this morning.
Near the Farmers Market, the old railroad bridge has been restored and is a pedestrian bridge now. As a child, I used to walk across the river on this bridge from my grandma's house to church (VBS in the summer, choir practice in the winter). I was terrified that a train would come while I was on the bridge. I would say to myself, "They (grandma and my parents, who saw nothing wrong with sending me across this dangerous span) ) will really miss me and feel sorry when I get splattered all over the front of an oncoming train! "
